Christmas Greetings & Recipes & Santa Claus

Silent Night,
Holy Night...

The big night is finally here!!

I hope you and your family and friends are enjoying a very Merry Christmas,
full of love, peace, health and happiness.

Last year I posted a short story about my first Christmas in College Point,
a small town in New York, when I was 5 years old.

If you have young children, they might enjoy it.
If you'd like to see what life was like in ancient times (1955), you might enjoy it.

In the story I mentioned many Maltese, Italian and German Christmas recipes.
I've linked the recipes to their names.
Just click for the recipe, if you'd like to try something new this week.

Or maybe next year.

Artist Mothers: Nurture and Neglect

The Artist Mothers at MAWA invite you to the exhibition Nurture and Neglect
at MAWA, 611 Main St, until December 31.

Contributing Artists: Carolina Araneda, Sherry Aubin, Charlene Brown, Sandra Brown, Jocelyn Chorney, Sarah Collard, Karen Cornelius, Melanie Dennis Unrau, Mary Ferguson, Brenna George, Arwen Helene, Susan Knowling, Helen Lyons, Lisa Lysack,
Rose Montgomery and Allison Moore.

When we nurture one thing we neglect another.  When caring for our children, we can neglect ourselves.  We let the laundry and the dishes pile up to make time for artmaking.  It sometimes seems impossible to be both mother and artist, so we negotiate.

Aqua Books: collage-à-trois

December 21, 8:00 pm
$10 ($5 students)

Jocelyn Goertzen, Shannon Kristjanson, and Rayannah Kroeker

collage-à-trois is our three voices, each with its own story.
We grew up waiting by the radio to hit the red record button, belting Disney in front of the mirror, memorizing Handel excerpts, putting on full-scale basement musicals and plays, mimicking Michael Jackson moves, rocking out on a cardboard guitar, transcribing Coltrane and singing French-Canadian folksongs.

Everyone collects songs they'll never forget, an autobiographical soundtrack.
This project is a collage of our songs.
Many genres, different instrumentations, creative arrangements and originals of our own.

Aboriginal Writers’ Collective: Readers Night

Thursday, December 15, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Winnipeg Public Library, 251 Donald Street, and the Aboriginal Writers’ Collective of Manitoba are excited to present an evening of readings by new and emerging writers, hosted by Katherena Vermette.

For 10 weeks this fall the Library and the Collective have hosted workshops with
budding writers from across the city and beyond – and now it’s time for them to
show us what they’ve got!

Funny, raw, touching, inspiring…  come and join us as we celebrate these exciting
new talents and the work they’ve produced.

Wednesday, December 14, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm

The women of Ka Ni Kanichihk’s Moon Voices program invite you to tune into CKUW 95.9 FM for a special broadcast of “Moon Voices on the Air - Stories of Resistance, Connection and Reclamation”. Podcasts of the show will also be available on CKUW's website!

Host Cheryl McKenzie of APTN will facilitate.  We'll discuss what it means for Indigenous women to reclaim power, challenge systemic barriers and reconnect to our culture.

Our stories will touch your heart, spark your interest, and make you think about what you know about Indigenous women.

This event is the first of a series in a collaboration between Ka Ni Kanichihk's Moon Voices (Aboriginal Women Reclaiming our Power) Project and the Institute for Women's and Gender Studies (IWGS).
