Volunteers from The Friends of the Conservatory, the Winnipeg Community Garden Network and Seeds of Diversity Canada are joining forces from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm for Winnipeg’s 11th annual Seedy Saturday.
At the heart of every Seedy Saturday is the SEED SWAP.
Bring your seeds, roots, plants and stories to share.
Lots of seeds for sale too!
Admission is by donation.
11:00 am Saving the Seed – This documentary film will be presented by David Rain and Kenton Lobe of USC Canada. This is the story of rural resilience and community development in Honduras, a pioneering model for renewed interest in food security.
12:00 noon Edible Landscaping – Dave Hanson, Sage Garden Herbs
Urban vegetables have finally escaped their isolation in straight rows and back corners! Dave will show you how to integrate food crops into your landscape with delicious results, while caring for your soil and increasing biodiversity in your yard.
1:00 pm Tales from a Prairie Seed Farmer – Jim Ternier runs Prairie Garden Seeds from his farm in Cochin Saskatchewan. He also maintains a heritage wheat collection at St Peter’s Abbey in Muenster, Sask. Jim loves heirloom seeds and the stories that they carry.
2:00 pm My Garden is Buzzing! - How to get started keeping honey bees of your own. Learn about bees, beehives and why particular flowers are important.
Jim Campbell has kept honey bees as a sideline business for over 30 years in the front yard of his rural home, near Stonewall. Jim is an active member of both the Manitoba Beekeepers' Association and Red River Apiarists' Association.
