Rajasthan & Henna Tatoos!

Saturday, November 19 · 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

MAWA will host a celebration based on the traditions of the colorful and culturally rich province of Rajasthan, India.
The workshop will be facilitated by two Rajasthani women, Manju Lodha and Geeta Patel, and will introduce the ancient tradition of henna tattoos.

Geeta will teach the art of painting with henna on women’s hands, while Manju will talk about their cultural meanings and traditions.
Henna tattoos are deeply rooted in the cultural and religious traditions of Muslim and Hindu cultures, throughout many Middle Eastern, Asian and African communities.

Manju and Geeta will prepare local snacks to be served, while Manju will sing traditional folk songs, play traditional instruments and teach her home country’s dance steps.

Manju Lodha was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and has lived in Canada for more than twenty years. Geeta has only recently arrived to Canada.
