Cover Letter Queen

Claire’s 40th high school reunion sends her hurtling down memory lane. As she compares notes with classmates who’ve had solid careers, her angst gradually gives way to an understanding that her journey, that include 60+ jobs, was a unique fit for the hippie/gypsy, turned mother/wife.

Carol Caron lives in Winnipeg, where she can still be found perusing the Classifieds.

Paramilitarism and the Assault on Democracy in Haiti

Jeb Sprague investigates the contemporary role of right-wing paramilitarism in undermining the democratic aspirations of the Haitian people. Through interviews, declassified government documents, and other sources, Sprague traces connections between paramilitaries and their elite financial and political backers, in Haiti, the United States and the Dominican Republic.

Jeb Sprague is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of California. He received a Project Censored Award in 2008 for an article from Port-au-Prince, and has written for the Inter Press Service, TeleSUR, Al Jazeera, Z Magazine, NACLA, Haiti Liberté, and Haiti Progrès. This event is presented in association with the Canada Haiti Action Network.
