Stories in a New Skin: Approaches to Inuit Literature

In an age when southern power-holders look north and see only vacant polar landscapes, isolated communities, and exploitable resources, it is important to note that the Inuit homeland encompasses extensive philosophical, political, and literary traditions.
Keavy Martin is an assistant professor in the Department of English and Film Studies at the University of Alberta.

The launch will include a guest performance by throat singer Nikki Komaksiutiksak and a reading by Nichola Tookoome Batzel in addition to a short talk by Keavy Martin.

Light refreshments will be served.

Nikki Komaksiutiksak has represented Canadian Aboriginals at venues such as the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. She has recording music with the Weakerthans, Moses Mayes and Susan Aglukark.

Nichola Tookoome Batzel is an Inuk educator in Winnipeg and an advocate for Inuit issues throughout the province.
