July 1 Celebrate Canada's Birthday

Birthday cake at 2 p.m., have the Canadian flag or favourite animal painted on your cheeks. You can also take in one of our guided history walks of the marsh.
Test your knowledge with our Canada Day Jeopardy and participate in games and quizzes.
Watch the Log Driver's Waltz as well as many other Canadian content films in our theatre.
Explore from a horse-drawn wagon from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Extra fee of $5 for non-members of the Interpretive Centre and $3 for members

Birding Presentation at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. by Dr. Yossi Leshem, a renowned birder from Israel who will be speaking about his work in the Great Rift Valley. He has been involved in many aspects of nature conservation, with an emphasis on bird research for 38 years.

Cooking with Cattails
July 6 - 1 p.m.

Learn how to recognize, harvest, prepare and cook this plant with Shawn Brandson from Promenade Café and Wine.
Cattails are a good source of iron and phosphorus, and a very good source of dietary fiber, vitamin K, vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium, potassium and manganese.

The fee for this workshop is only $20 per person plus admission, and includes all materials.  Registration is required by July 3rd.

Wildlife Management Area Van Tour
July 13 and 20

Oak Hammock Marsh is a 3,600 hectare (9000 acre) Wildlife Management Area and is home to 25 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, numerous amphibians, reptiles, and fish, and countless invertebrates.
Explore some of these remote areas with an experienced guide in the Centre's van.

This special tour is only $5 plus admission.

Dragonfly Festival
July 20 and 21

Manitoba is home to more than 100 species of dragonflies and damselflies.
Equipped with a net, join a Dragonfly Safari where you can catch and identify many different species. You can also try catching dragonfly nymphs from the water with a net and pail. See them magnified on our giant screen.
Participate in our Dragonfly Food Art Contest and our Colouring Contest to win a prize.

Camp for Kids
July and August

Camp is a great way to gather precious memories and build special friendships!
We have a variety of age-appropriate camps throughout July and August:

Cattail Camp: ages 5 to 7 - Animal detective, puzzle hunt, crafts, games, tasty snacks!

Blackbird Camp: ages 8 to 10 - games, scavenger hunts and a cool craft!

Wetland Adventure Camp: ages 11 to 13 - compass scavenger hunt, survival skills, canoeing, and geocaching!
