August Activities at Oak Hammock Marsh


Hazy Lazy Days of Summer
August 3 to 5

Join us for some fun and a unique way to spend those hazy, lazy days of summer.
Try a toe-dipping contest at our artesian spring!
This is also a great time of year to see the flowers of the prairie in bloom!

Canoe Regatta Workshop
August 11 - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Bring your own canoe and join expert canoeist and author, Dusty Molinski.
This unforgettable 3-hour canoe excursion will let you experience the marsh.
Pre-registration is required. Workshop fee is $10 plus admission.

Songbird Banding Workshop
August 17 - 8 to 10 a.m. 

Would you like to see these small birds up close? 
Join this workshop to learn the ins and outs of songbird banding.
This workshop is $5 per person and registration is required by August 14.

Wildlife Management Area Van Tour
August 10 and 24 - 1 p.m. 

Oak Hammock Marsh is a 3,600 hectare Wildlife Management Area that features patches of tall-grass prairie and 30 kilometers of trails to explore.
It is home to 25 species of mammals, and 300 species of birds.
Explore some of these remote areas with an experienced guide.
This special tour is only $10 plus admission.

Labour Day Adventure
August 31 to September 2

See the migrating birds return during a Birding Marsh walk as a nature interpreter guides you. Participate in a Sonic Sleuth Walk and tune into the sounds of the marsh.
Explore the marsh either in one of our three Voyageur-style canoes for a one-hour excursion or by Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides with Allan Webb. 

A fee of $5 for non-members of the Interpretive Centre and $3 for members 
apply to the canoe excursions and the wagon rides.
Wagon rides only on Monday - 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Camp for Kids - August 

We have a variety of age-appropriate camps to choose from throughout August:

Cattail Camp: ages 5 to 7 
Animal detective, puzzle hunt, crafts, games, tasty snacks and more!

Blackbird Camp (optional 1 night sleep over): ages 8 to 10
games, scavenger hunts and a cool craft!

Wetland Adventure Camp (2 nights sleep over): ages 11 to 13
compass scavenger hunt, survival skills, canoeing, and geocaching! 
(3 days, 2 nights - meals included)


The Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre is located 30 minutes North of Winnipeg on highway 67 between highways #7 and #8.
