The Forgotten Trail: From Prince Arthur’s Landing to Red River

Canada had a problem. How was it going to transport people and goods from its eastern provinces to the vast, empty prairie it had just inherited from the Hudson’s Bay Company? Simon Dawson proposed a road that would use wagons, barges and steamboats to traverse the 450 miles of wilderness between Lake Superior and Red River. This book tells of the difficult birth, short life, and early death of Dawson’s “Road”.

Neil McQuarrie attended the University of Manitoba. His career was in Education. His interest in the history of Northwestern Ontario is of long standing.

The Insistent Garden

Edith Stoker’s father is building a wall in their backyard, a brick bulwark in his obsessive war against their hated neighbour Edward Black. It is 1969, and, far away, preparations are being made for man to walk upon the moon.  Chard’s followup to her award-winning Seal Intestine Raincoat unfolds like a grown-up take on The Secret Garden

After studying anthropology and ecology, Rosie Chard practiced as a landscape architect, moving to Winnipeg in 2005. Seal Intestine Raincoat won the 2010 Trade Fiction Book Award at the Alberta Book Publishing Awards.

Heart Like an Ocean

Senona Montez refuses to follow the path expected of a Don’s only child. On the eve of her marriage to a stranger, she flees and finds a protector in reckless privateer.  Straddling the worlds of independence and privilege in 1600s Europe, Brant Foxton shows her what living to the fullest really means, and allows her to follow her heart wherever it leads.

Fifteen years after Christine Steendam's debut novel, Heart Like an Ocean is available and her second book is scheduled to be released in October.
