Sarasvàti Productions is seeking monologues for female voices by Canadian playwrights for their annual cabaret to celebrate International Women’s Week (March 5-11, 2017).
This year’s theme is ‘Starting Over’ and we are looking to bring the stories of newcomers, moments of transition and new beginnings to the stage.
Submission deadline is September 1, 2016.
The goal is to reflect a diversity of experience so we are looking for a range of material.
Any style is acceptable as long as the piece is under ten minutes in length and written for a female character. Royalties will be paid for use of the monologues.

Sarasvàti Productions presents FemFest 2016: Transformation, the 14th annual festival of life-changing plays by women for everyone. This year we are excited to feature the real-life struggles of a transgender poet, famed comic duo Morro and Jasp tackling puberty, a beautiful exploration of grief and a world premiere!

In 2006, a young documentary maker visited Cape Town, Africa where he met a record store owner who told him of Sixto Rodriguez, a Mexican-American singer-songwriter whose two albums had not sold in the U.S., but sold thousands of copies in South Africa. Rodriguez was more popular and influential than Elvis and inspired a generation of anti-establishment songwriters.
In the late 1990s, a South African music journalist made an astonishing discovery: Rodriguez was alive and had no idea of his fame.

Human Rights Advocacy Series
Interactive workshops and action challenges will provide knowledge and strategies for addressing current human rights topics.
Participants acquire the tools to effectively engage in human rights campaigns.
This series will link participants to Amnesty International’s priority campaigns. Topics will include women’s rights, refugee rights, Indigenous rights, and business & human rights.
All participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate.
