Cinematheque and Peasant Cookery present a romantic evening of great cuisine and film!

Based on Jane Rule’s 1964 novel, Desert of the Heart, Donna Deitch’s narrative feature debut, centres on a burgeoning lesbian romance between libertine casino worker Cay Rivvers (Patricia Charbonneau) and repressed university professor Vivian Bell (Helen Shaver) in Reno, Nevada in the late 1950s, a climate wherein being queer was…complicated. It has been digitally restored.

We're throwing a massive, New-Orleans-style Mardi Gras party. The event features a free afternoon parade on the river trail, open to the entire community, in partnership with Festival Du Voyageur. The evening will feature a special musical guest, DJ, New Orleans-inspired snacks, classic Bourbon Street cocktails, and other exciting activities.

All of the proceeds raised at the event will benefit our year-round programming, including the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, our community and youth outreach programs, concert season, and Nu Sounds series.

Proceeds from the Wild Winter Canoe Race sustain the work of Inclusion Winnipeg, a registered charity whose mission is to enhance the lives of children, youths and adults living with intellectual disabilities and autism, support their families and advance their human rights and inclusion in the community.

The 2018 Grand Prize is a roundtrip VIA Rail pass for the five members of the winning team and one guest each from Winnipeg to Churchill and return. This prize includes all meals and accommodations in a double room per couple aboard the train.

The Bridge Program: From Syria to North America
A Canadian saxophonist, a Syrian keyboardist, and a group of students from around the world come together to bring you a blend of sound from Syria and North America to celebrate compassion, love, peace and what it means to be human. 

The Bridge Program is a means of providing music instruction to children who would otherwise have no access. Keyboardist Mohamad Holilo arrived in March 2017, a refugee from war-torn Syria. For Holilo the chance to perform and share some of his favourite songs from his homeland is a gift.

Audio Editing for Dancers
Learn the basics of digital audio editing for performance. This course is designed especially for dance teachers and choreographers looking for a fast, easy, and cheap way to cut and mix music. Software covered includes Audacity and Reaper. Please bring current projects or ideas, as there will be a hands-on portion of the class.

Kayla Jeanson is a filmmaker and video producer who specializes in dance-related media. Her cinematography, editing and directing for videos and television shows has been seen online, internationally at film festivals, as well as on CBC, APTN, and MTS TV.
