James Manishen (Artistic Director of the WSO) will moderate a discussion with Alexander Mickelthwaite (WSO Conductor and Music Director) and David Moroz (Artistic Director of the Winnipeg Chamber Music Society) on the influence of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the historical events of this week leading up to November 6, the 120th anniversary of Tchaikovsky’s death.

Lorne Heshka will discuss the basics of growing tropical orchids in a home setting. He has served as President of the Manitoba Orchid Society as well as Vice-President of the Canadian Orchid Congress. Lorne has written articles on orchids, illustrated with his photographs for a number of publications.

Stuck in the Middle: Dissenting Views of Winnipeg
Winnipeg inspires intense and contradictory emotions from residents, visitors and people who have never even ventured to Manitoba capital. The city at the centre of North America inspires a profound sense of ambivalence, stuck as it is between a colourful and triumphant early history, a long period of 20th-Century decline and an uncertain if optimistic future.
Bryan Scott has been documenting the city since 2005. He maintains the photo blog Winnipeg Love Hate and self-published a book of photos from the site in 2010.
Bartley Kives has been writing about urban affairs, pop culture, travel and sustainability since the 1990s. He is reporter-at-large for the Winnipeg Free Press. His first book, A Daytripper’s Guide to Manitoba, has become a Canadian bestseller.
