Father’s Day Events at FortWhyte Alive, Oak Hammock Marsh l Family Events at Mennonite Heritage Village

Father’s Day is on June 15!!
Here are some ideas….

FortWhyte Alive

Reserve a special picnic lunch from the Buffalo Stone CafĂ©, and BYOBB – Bring Your Own Blanket & Basket! 
Lunch features BBQ chicken, braised short ribs, potato salad, broccoli salad, focaccia bread, cookies & brownies, and assorted soft drinks or water.
Cost: $14.99/person for members, $16.99/person for non-members

Oak Hammock Marsh

The Stonewall centre has a fun-filled day planned for the whole family. 
There’s a special lunch from noon – 2 pm, plus activities like horse-drawn wagon rides and a water bug derby!
Cost: Varies for lunch; some activities are $3 for members, $5 for non-members

Farmers’ Markets

If your Dad prefers to make his own food, take him to a farmers’ market to pick out fresh foods perfect for grilling up at home. 
Skinner’s Locks Market is open on Father’s Day from noon to 5 pm.
The Forks’ outdoor market is open 11 am – 4 pm.

Mennonite Heritage Village
Take dad to feast at the Livery Barn Restaurant; the buffet is from 11:30 am – 2 pm. 
The Sunday brunch will feature many homemade traditional Russian Mennonite dishes – the bread will even be made with wheat ground by the windmill on-site!

Winnipeg Rowing Club Open House - tour the facilities, check out the boats and boathouse, watch rowing demonstrations, and try dockside rowing.  The WRC offers programs for all ages and skill levels, including three designed to get beginners involved in the sport:

Adult Learn-to-Row Sessions – weekends, or over a two-week period.
Youth Summer Camps – July and August, week-long youth rowing camps introduce 11 to 14 year olds to the basics. 
Community Rowing Challenge – This eight-week program gets teams training together weekly. Concludes with a Championship Regatta on September 6.

Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) Winnipeg Paddlefest is a celebration of paddling.
Participate in skills clinics, demos, gear swaps, and workshops.  FREE ACTIVITIES include:

Free Canoe, Kayak and SUP on site rentals all day long at Fort Whyte Alive.
Paddleswap (gear swap) held adjacent to the Alloway Reception building.
New product and boat demonstrations from Wilderness Supply and MEC Winnipeg.
Representatives from Paddle Manitoba, Manitoba Whitewater Club, Parkland Paddling Club, and Paddle Canada.
The Lake Winnipeg Foundation, and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society will educate on water issues.
Best Paddling films from the Waterwalker Film Festival shown for free all day.
Demonstrations by WAVPaddling and Hardcore Paddleboards.
FortWhyte Alive will offer numerous drop-in sessions.
Art City will run art sessions – bring in old paddles and have them decorated.
A fun and friendly SUP, Kayak and Canoe race in the afternoon for all levels!
Slacklining demos by MEC Winnipeg.
Watch members of the Manitoba Whitewater Club shooting down the slide!

PAID CLINICS & WORKSHOPS
$5 charge for each clinic and workshop. 
Participants must be 14 to enroll in adult courses, parents must sign waivers for children. 
Paddling instruction for kids, teens and adults in SUP, Kayaking and Canoeing.
‘Learn to Slackline’ session by MEC Winnipeg.

Clinic and workshop participants will be given a ‘Club Day’ card - 10% off in-store purchases at MEC Winnipeg on June 20, 2014.

Canoes and kayaks and stand up paddleboards (SUPs) will be available for use at Paddlefest. Participants are welcome to bring their own boats to FortWhyte Alive.
