Unist'ot'en Resistance Solidarity Dinner: Brett Rhyno

January 21, 5:00 pm
Phone (204) 946-5241

The Unist'ot'en Camp is a resistance community whose purpose is to protect sovereign Wet'suwet'en territory from proposed pipelines from the Tar Sands Gigaproject and shale gas from Hydraulic Fracturing Projects in the Peace River Region.

The camp is located at the shore of the Wedzin Kwah and mouth of the Gosnell Creek. These are all tributary to the the Skeena, Bulkley, and Babine Rivers. The proposed pipelines from Enbridge Northern Gateway and Pacific Trails seek to cross the rivers where the resistance camp is on the Unis’tot’en Territory of Talbits Kwah.

The Unist'ot'en along with other allies will stop this destructive path, for the future generations, for the biodiversity, and for solidarity with our neighbours living amidst the heavy impacts in the Tar Sands Affected areas in Northern Alberta, and regions heavily affected by Fracking Natural Gas and Shale Oil.

March 4, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Admission is by donation

Bring your gently used clothing down and swap them for awesome new stuff that you'll actually wear!

- Come with any and all clothes/shoes/bags/accessories/hats etc.
- Ensure clothes that you bring are gently used and in good, wearable condition.
- Each person lays out their clothes, and everyone goes from pile to pile, taking what they want. This is not a one-to-one swap - everything laid out is considered up for grabs.
- The general feel is a friendly first-come first-serve. Should two people want the exact same item of clothing, disputes can be settled by a friendly match of rock paper scissors.
- At the end of the day anything left behind will be donated.

Please, invite your friends and family!

A systematic reconstruction of the core values and feasible goals for Left theorists and political actors, Envisioning Real Utopias lays the foundations for a set of concrete, emancipatory alternatives to the capitalist system.

SMUT SLAM

You know what a poetry slam is.

Now it’s time for Winnipeg’s first-ever SMUT SLAM, a fast-paced night of storytelling based on real life, real lust, real sex.

Mondragon Bookstore, 91 Albert St.
Tuesday, July 12
Doors open at 6:30 pm
the slam starts at 7:00 pm
Admission is $7 at the door, or $5 for students 18 and over!

The theme for this SMUT SLAM is, naturally, “Fringe...”
It's a perfect, perverse kick-off to your Winnipeg Fringe!

SMUT SLAMMERS sign up on the night to tell a 5-minute piece, based on Fringe hook-ups, experiences out on the edge, fringe on a scarf...
and a lucky eight to ten names will be drawn.
There will be a team of judges.
Prizes provided by Winnipeg's own Love Nest!

At intermission, slammers and audience alike have the opportunity to challenge Cameryn Moore in a lightning-fast IRON SMUT ROUND (participants receive two words or phrases and then must use those in a two-minute smut fictional narratives).

SMUT SLAM host Cameryn Moore is the award-winning creator and performer of Phone Whore and a new one-woman show slut (r)evolution
In addition to writing and performing, Cameryn is a comedian, sex educator, and phone sex operator. Cameryn blogs about her “day job”.

Co-host Heather Witherden is Winnipeg's favourite wisecracking Mom.
After a titillating 2010 Fringe debut (Breast Friends, Tazzy's Angels), she's returning to Tazzy's Angels 2011 at the Gas Station Theatre.
Heather is also the popular comic MC of Moonlight Madness Burlesque, bringing a cheekiness and wit that has the audience gasping for air.

NOT A SMUT SLAMMER? Don’t worry. Sit back and enjoy.
All we ask is: - No interrupting. - No heckling. - No necking.

From Victoria to Vladivostok highlights Canadian responses to the Russian Revolution – sympathy from the labour movement alongside the deployment of 4,000 troops to Siberia to fight the Bolsheviks.

Militant Minority moves into the Cold War period, examining changes in British Columbia's left during the bleak days of McCarthyism and the tumultuous 1960s, culminating in the election of BC's first NDP government.

Taken together, these books tell important stories that have been left out of popular memory. The evening will include an engaging multi-media presentation.

Does Canada have a working-class movement?
Though many of us think of ourselves as middle class, most of us are, in fact, working class: we work for a wage. And though many of us are members of unions, the most significant organizations of the working-class movement in Canada, most people do not understand themselves to be part of this movement.

Canadian Labour in Crisis asks why this is so.
