Dr. Karen Harlos, PhD Commerce (Organizational Behaviour), MA Psychology (Industrial/Organizational) as part of Psychology Month 2013.
Workplace bullying is a serious problem that harms both individuals’ mental and physical health and institutions’ performance and sustainability. I draw on my own and others’ work to explore evolving ideas about sources of bullying and strategies for prevention.
Dr. Karen Harlos is Associate Professor and Inaugural Chair, Department of Business and Administration at the University of Winnipeg.

“Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers: Understanding and surviving the early years!”
Dr. Sayma Malik and Enid Britton, MSW, RSW as part of Psychology Month 2013.
This talk will offer a basic overview of the following: Learn to identify how young children express their social and emotional needs; Learn how to promote healthy emotional development; Learn about community resources available to support families.
Dr. Sayma Malik specializes in assessment and treatment of young children with complex histories. Prevention, early intervention and advocacy are strong areas of clinical and research interest.
Enid Britton has over 25 years of clinical experience working with families. She has a passion for promoting children’s mental health, advocating for families and supporting parents to see their innate strengths.

presenting “The Process of Postmodern Communication.”
Admission is free.
Many consider communication to be a straightforward process in which a message is sent by one and received by another. I will explain how communication works, both in terms of interpersonal communication and how one engages with media and its messages.

“Tips on Communication: How to Stop Having the Same Argument Over and Over”
Dr. Alicia Ordóñez (Clinical Psychologist) and Dr. Jo Ann Unger (Clinical Psychologist Candidate)
You will gain some understanding about how repetitive arguments happen and learn tips that can help you have more effective and meaningful interactions.
Dr. Alicia Ordóñez has provided therapy services to individuals, couples, and families with a variety of concerns: parenting, relationship issues, trauma, coping with transitions and life stages, mood problems, and abuse. An ASL interpreter will be on site.

`Mom, is the Fish Sleeping?’: Dealing with Family Loss”
Dr. Carrie Lionberg (Clinical Psychologist) and Leah Enns (Clinical Psychology Resident)
The ways that family members react to and cope with loss: from death of a pet to neonatal loss. Grief and changes in the family system, how children deal with loss, and what can be done as a family to help children understand and cope will be highlighted.
Dr. Carrie Lionberg, a Clinical Psychologist, specializes in the psychological treatment of issues related to Women's Health, Chronic Illness and Injury Adjustment.
Leah Enns, M.A., a clinical health psychology resident, specializes in the assessment and treatment of families who present with pediatric and mental health issues.
