Christopher Marlowe's Edward II, a new adaptation by Kendra Jones
Directed by Sarah Constible
Why should you love him, who the world hates so?
Out of the ashes, a society rises. Newly crowned King Edward II rules an unstable kingdom. When he raises Gaveston above the rest, his hold on power weakens. Once again, war threatens the land as jealousy and intolerance rip family, lovers and friends apart.

Kevin Anderson, Andrew Cecon, Toby Hughes, Tom Keenan, Daina Leitold, Derek Leenhouts, Mel Marginet, Tracey Nepinak, Karl Thordarson and Kevin Klassen as King Edward II.

The Park Theatre presents The Wet Secrets as part of our 10th Anniversary Weekend.

The Wet Secrets is a six piece rock’n’roll dance band that plays swampy basslines, primal drumming, keys, congas & vocal harmonies galore. Formed on a dare by Lyle Bell, Trevor Anderson and Kim Rackel, the bass and horn-heavy group burst onto the scene with 2006’s A Whale of a Cow; 2007 saw the release of the fuzzed-up full-length Rock Fantasy
The Wet Secrets have signed with Six Shooter Records for their upcoming album The Tyranny of Objects, due out in early 2016.

The Park Theatre presents The Ripperz as they release their new album with guests Dangercat and Harley James Flett.
The Ripperz’ talent, passion, and laid back style pulls in new fans at each performance. The home-style brand of rock and roll varies from folk tinged ballads to upbeat rockers with an occasional hard rock scream thrown in for good measure.

Dangercat are a four-piece punk band from Winnipeg. Their new album ‘To The Moon’ came out September, 2014.

October 3, Doors 8 / Show 9:00 pm - 11:55 pm
The Park Theatre is proud to present The Perpetrators and The Reverend Rambler as part of our 10th Anniversary Weekend.

The Perpetrators front-man and founding member Jay Nowicki is rated one of Canada’s tastiest guitar players. Together with the rhythm section of Emmet VanEtten and John Scoles they deliver a tight, raw and intense blues experience.

The Reverend Rambler is not actually a man of the cloth. For much of the last six years, Matt Colpitts has frequently stormed Manitoba stages, issuing up foot-stomping sermons of ferocious rhythm and blues.

The Bass Coast Music Festival's co-founder and music curator has been making some very loud noises up and down the Pacific Northwest for the better part of a decade. Her knack for blending total dance floor destruction with sly subtleties and hot new exclusives makes for a consistently accessible, yet undeniably future sound.

Andrea has toured the Pacific Northwest club & festival circuit extensively, and has performed as far way as Costa Rica and throughout the midwest. She also has a bi-weekly radio show on Sub.fm every second Wednesday.

Get Your Heart On

Heart disease and stroke are two of the three leading causes of death in Canada.

Those Girls have created an annual event called “Get Your Heart On.” Last year, with over 200 guests in attendance, we were able to raise over $15,000 for the foundation.

As a youngster, Olympic figure skater Isabelle Brasseur's fainting spells went unexplained. Eventually, doctors learned a heart defect could cause her heart to stop as a result of extreme exertion or stress. While giving birth to daughter Gabriella, Isabelle's heart stopped for 31 seconds. A jolt of adrenalin got it going again. Mom and baby were fine.

Heart and Stroke Foundation researchers have taken major strides to prevent sudden cardiac death by identifying the link between fainting and unexplained cardiac arrest.  Every dollar donated puts us closer to making more breakthrough discoveries that save lives and support survivors, their families and caregivers.

Sex Worker Solidarity

A Greater Toronto Workers' Assembly Coffeehouse
March 4, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Free
Beit Zatoun, 612 Markham Street (Bathurst Station)
Wheelchair accessible space. Unfortunately the washrooms are not accessible.

Panellists: Kathryn Payne, Keisha Scott, Phoenix Kat, Kyisha Williams and Victoria Love
Moderator: Emily van der Meulen

This discussion will address how acting in solidarity with sex worker rights organizations, and supporting sex workers in their efforts to improve their working conditions and end criminalization, are important in the movement towards expanding labour rights for all.

Sex workers in Toronto have been organizing for improved labour and social rights for over 30 years.  And yet, we have witnessed an intensification of criminal law sanctions against sex workers' labour activities since the mid-1980s.

Despite their ongoing efforts to change social views, sex-work continues to be seen by many as illegitimate, dangerous, exploitive, and valueless.  Sex workers have identified criminalization, and its resulting stigma and discrimination, as central to the problems they face.

Therefore, labour organizing for better protections is inseparable from the fight for decriminalization.

Toronto’s 7th Annual Rally for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women

February 14, 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
Feast at the 519 Church Street Community Centre, 519 Church Street following the rally.

Raising our Voices to Demand the United Nations Investigate
Missing & Murdered Indigenous women in Canada

According to research conducted by the Native Women Association of Canada (NWAC), under the Sisters In Spirit Program, over 600 Indigenous women have been murdered or gone missing, most of them over the last 30 years.

Despite clear evidence that this is an ongoing issue, the federal government decided in the Fall of 2010 to end funding to Sisters in Spirit. Instead, monies in the amount of $10 million have been dedicated to a central RCMP missing person centre.

The same institution who, along with the Vancouver Police Department, failed to properly investigate Pickton in 1997, is now at the centre of a public inquiry in Vancouver. The inquiry into the failed Pickton investigation has been boycotted by 20 of the 21 groups who were granted standing due to the denial of adequate funding for legal defense.

Pickton, who was convicted for six murders, has admitted to killing 49 women.

The Committee to End Discrimination Against Women at the United Nations has accepted submissions put forward by advocates of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES), as well as the Native Women's Association of Canada, and announced their intent to launch an inquiry into Canada's missing and murdered Indigenous women.

We come together in solidarity with the women who started this vigil over 20 years ago in Vancouver's DTES.

We stand in defense of our lives and to demonstrate against the complicity of the state in the ongoing genocide of Indigenous women and the impunity of state institutions that prevents justice for all Indigenous peoples.

Laura Lush & Ariel Gordon on Motherhood

Thursday, November 3 · 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Toronto Women's Bookstore, 73 Harbord St.
Laura Lush will be reading and signing her newly released poetry collection, Carapace
At times, these poems are told through the eyes of a new mother as she attempts to balance the complex and often conflicting emotions that accompany motherhood:
joy, anger, uncertainty, awe and fear. At other times, they are told through the eyes
of a bereft narrator as she comes to grip with death and loss.

Ariel Gordon will also be reading from her poetry collection Hump, which recently won the Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry. Hump is a mash-up of pregnancy-and-mothering poems that functions as an anti-sentiment manifesto. Month by month, stanza by stanza, Gordon attempts to adequately represent the wonder and devilment of being-with-child.

G20 protester Jaggi Singh

Callout for court support: G20 protester Jaggi Singh facing six-month prison sentence

Tuesday, June 21, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Old City Hall Court, 60 Queen Street West, Room M1
Toronto

phone - 514-848-7583 or 416-708-3195 (for in court updates)
follow on twitter - @g20mobilize or @CLACmontreal

If your group would also like to write a public support letter, or endorse an existing one, please contact the CLAC in Montreal.  We are collecting public support letters until Saturday, June 18.

For background to the court hearing:

If Jaggi receives prison time, he will be taken into custody immediately on June 21.

Jaggi, a member of the Anti-Capitalist Convergence (CLAC) and No One Is Illegal-Montreal, has technically pled guilty to “counselling to commit mischief over $5000”.

As part of the plea agreement between the Crown and Jaggi:
i) the Crown will not call Jaggi as a witness in any G20-related case
ii) Jaggi’s plea cannot be used by the Crown in any other G20 prosecutions
iii) Jaggi will offer no cooperation to the Crown or the police
iv) Jaggi will offer no apologies for his actions and words
v) the entirety of the agreement will be public and not subject to any publication ban.

276 letters were submitted to the judge during his April sentencing hearing in support of Jaggi. Many letter-writers indicated their full support for Jaggi’s words at the fence, and expressed agreement that the G20 security fence should have been removed. All letter-writers have urged the judge to impose a minimal sentence.

As well, many more individuals and other groups from all over Quebec, Canada, the USA and overseas have submitted letters of support.

Susie Moloney: The Thirteen

Join Susie in celebrating the launch of her newest novel The Thirteen!

The Witches of Eastwick meets Desperate Housewives in Susie Moloney's The Thirteen, her new and long-awaited novel.

Haven Woods is suburban heaven, a great place to raise a family. It's close to the city, quiet, with great schools and its own hospital right up the road. The crime rate is practically non-existent, unless you count the odd human sacrifice, dismemberment, animal attack, demon rape, and blood atonement.

When Paula Wittmore goes home to Haven Woods to care for a suddenly ailing mother, she brings her daughter and a pile of emotional baggage. She also brings the last chance for twelve of her mother's closest frenemies, who like to keep their numbers at thirteen. And her daughter, young, innocent, is a worthy gift to the darkness.

A circle of friends will support you through bad times.
A circle of witches can drag you through hell.
