August 29 - 31 Labour Day Weekend at The Forks
Manitoba and Saskatchewan artists team up for Prairie Barge Festival, three days of music, art and culture.
The family-friendly free weekend will offer Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers & School of Contemporary Dance, an installation from PO-MO Project, the improv comedy stylings of Hot Thespian Action, blues and folk jams, and a special projection of the Labour Day Classic: Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Also performances from JUNO Award-winning soul/pop outfit Chic Gamine, alt-country favourites The Deep Dark Woods, 2014 Western Canadian Music Award nominee marijosée, singer/songwriter and former Waltons front man Jason Plumb, and an outdoor performance from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
An outdoor art market will include: Saskatchewan’s Larry Trask (soapstone sculpting), Sherri Hrycay (milliner), Gwen Fehr (beeswax candles), and Manitoba’s Boomerang 360 (clothing), Blokland Pottery, One Plus One Designs, and 129 Designs (jewelry).

Maurice and his wife travelled to Ukraine to adopt two small boys. Maurice’s Mennonite father, born in Ukraine, has a traumatic and mysterious past. If he can understand his father’s life, perhaps he can make sense of his sons.
Maurice Mierau is the author of several books of poetry, including Fear Not, which won the ReLit Award in 2009.

This novel explores a past where world governments threaten annihilation while training housewives in the proper techniques for sweeping up radioactive dust.
Margaret Sweatman teaches and performs with the Broken Songs Band. Her previous novels garnered the McNally Robinson Prize for the Manitoba Book of the Year, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, the Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction, the Sunburst Award for Canadian Literature of the Fantastic, and the Carol Shields Winnipeg Award.

Titles include Imagining Winnipeg: History Through the Photographs of L.B. Foote by Esyllt W. The contributors will read and discuss their work.
