Haunter Album Fundraiser w/ Departures

Lo Pub
June 1, 9:00 pm
$5

Haunter is putting out an album this summer, and since it's very expensive, we decided to throw a big party where we can play songs for you.

What better reason do you need to go to a show than supporting local music?
And local bars.
And local beer.
Right?

Haunter is rock and roll. They play electric guitar rock full of pop hooks, ambitious melodies and a rhythm section that explodes like a house on fire. Lead singer Matt Williams is fearless and intelligent. This is hopeful, celebratory music that inspires and takes risks, equal parts truth and imagination.

Departures are four men and one woman from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
They have been steadily building good will for the past two years.
Departures has shared the stage with Women, Handsome Furs, Braids, Born Ruffians, Friendo, Boats and many others.

Departures has recently recorded their debut album with Howard Bilerman (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Vic Chesnutt, Arcade Fire).

The XX Factor: Women On The Wheels Of Steel

The Lo Pub, 330 Kennedy
Fundraiser for West Central Women's Resource Center’s drop-in program
March 3, 9:00 pm
Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at the Lo Pub, WCWRC and Organic Planet

Enjoy a night of great music and dance the night away with Mama Cutsworth and her most recent DJ school graduates!

The drop-in is an integral part of WCWRC programming. In 2010, there were close to 18,000 visits. Lunch is served three times a week to an average of 50 women per day. There is always hot coffee and snacks available and there are shower and laundry facilities on site. Women also have access to a phone, computer and a photocopier.

All of these services are provided to community women free of charge.

Since WCWRC’s move to its new home at 640 Ellice St. the drop-in has seen a large increase in traffic. It is the heart of the centre and women repeatedly say that they find the space welcoming, warm and friendly.

In ten years, WCWRC has helped to empower women to succeed through programs such as job skills training, housing support, parenting skills and self-esteem building.

Lyzie Burt with Mise en Scene & Claire Morrison

Im Trying Records and UMFM are proud to present:
LYZIE BURT: "Cigarettes and You"
w/ Mise en Scene and Claire Morrison of Fire and Smoke

Friday, January 20
The show will be at the Lo Pub, 330 Kennedy Street.
Tickets will be $7 at the door.
The doors open at 9:00, music to begin at 10.

Lyzie Burt is a 19 year old singer/songwriter who grew up in Selkirk, MB. Her music and melodies have been described as, "melancholy, with a twist that glues you to your chair". Lyzie is very active in the local music scene, lending her voice to local bands The Blisters, Zoppa and Little House.

Mise en Scene is a female duo indie pop rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jodi, the punk rock power drummer sits stage right to Stef, vocals/guitar whose voice has been compared to that of Neko Case and Zooey Deschanel. Their sound ranges from 60s girl group pop to hard rock’n’roll!

Claire is 1/2 of the Winnipeg Folk duo Fire and Smoke.
Claire Morrison and Daniel Péloquin-Hopfner discovered in each other the potential for what is now Fire & Smoke. With her "decadently rich...voice" (Sandbox Magazine) and his feel-them-in-your-bones harmonies, the pair is garnering attention from CBC/Radio-Canada and has earned a spot at Granby's International Festival of Song in September 2012.  Fire & Smoke’s haunting style and boldly intimate storytelling will leave you with an ache in your soul, a song in your heart, and a knowing twinkle in your eye.

Ismaila Alfa

On March 5 at 9:00 pm you are invited to the Lo Pub where Mama Cutsworth will start the night off right, spinning some of her magical rumpshaking tunes.

Ismaila Alfa and the band will hit the stage at 11:00 pm sharp.

Between working as the traffic guy on CBC radio, recording and touring as the front man for Magnum K.I., Ismaila Alfa has been going back to drawing on the afrobeat, reggae and soul that he heard and mimicked as a kid.

Together with Curtis Nowosad, Julian Bradford, Will Bonness (Curtis Nowosad Trio) and Mark Penner (Moses Mayes) Ismaila has been writing and rehearsing new solo songs.

Expect the night to be capped off with special guests and improv performances!
