Halcyon Days
A CANADIAN PREMIERE!
Written by Deirdre Kinahan
Directed by Brendan Carruthers

Nominated Best New Play by the Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2012.
The setting is a dreary nursing home on the outskirts of Dublin. In this ‘prison without bars’ the nursing home lifestyle offers little stimulation or hope for the ‘inmates;’ each trying to come to terms with their infirmities.
Sean sits alone, abandoned to his memories of stage and screen. In storms Patricia, a feisty woman used to taking command. From their first initial wary contact, an unexpected relationship gradually develops between these two very different people. Their relationship is by times charming, combative, tender and funny, as each finally comes to acceptance and the realization that their lives are nearing an end.

While Domestic Violence affects many in the neighbourhood, the issue is rarely addressed head on, and isn’t spoken about enough. They have chosen to take a public stand with hope that more families experiencing violence will take steps to heal and change.
