Halcyon Days
A CANADIAN PREMIERE!
Written by Deirdre Kinahan
Directed by Brendan Carruthers

Nominated Best New Play by the Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2012.
The setting is a dreary nursing home on the outskirts of Dublin. In this ‘prison without bars’ the nursing home lifestyle offers little stimulation or hope for the ‘inmates;’ each trying to come to terms with their infirmities.
Sean sits alone, abandoned to his memories of stage and screen. In storms Patricia, a feisty woman used to taking command. From their first initial wary contact, an unexpected relationship gradually develops between these two very different people. Their relationship is by times charming, combative, tender and funny, as each finally comes to acceptance and the realization that their lives are nearing an end.

March 22
Thunderbird House on Main Street

Artist Jackie Traverse is organizing 'Got Art?’, an art auction fundraiser for Got Bannock, a registered non-profit.  Traverse will donate two original pieces.  Others featured include Patrick Ross, Arlea Ashcroft, Victor Tssessaze, and Ernie Cobiness, son of late Eddie Cobiness, one of the Native Group of Seven.

When I went homeless I felt forgotten by society. For me, that is the worst feeling in the world and I want to do everything I can to make the people on the street feel that they are not forgotten and I care that they are out there.  I am going to do everything I can to advocate for them and help bring change for them. Althea Guiboche

In that spirit of philanthropy, Althea Guiboche said once her food truck gets off the ground, for every customer who buys a meal for themselves she will donate one meal to a person in need.  Donations can be made to Got Bannock Inc. at Median Credit Union.

Aliana Au’s landscapes are measured prayers. Her use of oil stick and watercolour in her latest exhibit Here & Now are an homage to the few places left untouched by man.

I am seeking a voice from my childhood.  Growing up in Canton (Guangzhou) China where I lived surrounded by unspoilt expanses of land. There was a true wildness in the places where I grew up.

A Calgary organization called Seniors Secret Service has been providing gifts to isolated seniors at Christmas and on their birthday for the past 28 years. Unfortunately many of their Corporate and individual sponsors are choosing to sponsor fewer seniors this year, a move some have attributed to generous financial contributions during the flood crisis.  They are seeking help to ensure they meet the needs of their community.

If you wish to help the Christmas Cheer program, you may do so by visiting Canada Helps
or by mail to Seniors Secret Service, Suite #1, 6025 12 ST SE Calgary AB T2K 2K1
