Speaking & Showing portions of the film The Healing of Heather Garden

For five years, Heather endured painful treatments and increasingly severe symptoms with no medical hope of recovery from Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.  The turning point was when she was introduced to a woman who led her to a different approach to healing. This documentary follows Heather’s journey through the unexpected and steady progress to regaining her health.

While at the Child Guidance Clinic, Judith Morrow obtained an MSW in Family Therapy.
My experience in seemingly impossible situations taught me that words, images and beliefs can be powerful healing tools.  My focus was to offer a story of inspiration and hope.

The MWG and the WPL Present a Freedom to Read Marathon

March 2, 10:00 am until 5:00 pm

Every year the Winnipeg Public Library and the Manitoba Writers’ Guild hold a Freedom to Read Marathon to collectively assert our right to the fundamental freedoms of thought, belief, expression, as well as the freedom of the press and other means of communication. We do so by taking turns reading aloud from works that have been, or continue to be, banned or challenged in our country or elsewhere.

We invite you to take part in our efforts, either by spreading the word, coming out to support us, or signing up to read from the work of your choice.
A selection of works will be provided.

For information or to sign-up to read, please contact
the Reader Services department of the Millennium Library (204-986-6779).

Painting is History - Christian Worthington

November 2 - 27
Gurevich Fine Art, 200-62 Albert Street - (204) 488-0662

Opening Reception November 2, 7:00 pm
Painting is History - Christian Worthington

Christian Worthington is looking at paint and paintings: their ability to withstand cultural and technological shifts throughout history, as well as their ability to evoke powerful emotional connections. Worthington is also exhibiting his process as a painter, displaying the stages and transformations that are essential to the completion of his work.
The show presents the scope of painting from the sketches to the final glazes.
Worthington does not identify as an abstract expressionist but shares the movement's concentration on tone, tension and color.

Gurevich Fine Art: Cyrus Smith

Opening Reception
Gurevich Fine Art, 200 – 62 Albert Street
June 3, 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm

After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a BFA with Honours, Cyrus Smith has been actively participating in numerous group shows at institutions including:
Gallery 1.1.1., Plug In ICA, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. His work has been published in Border Crossings Magazine, Toro Magazine, The National Post, and shown on CBC ‘Artspots’. Smith has been written about in The Globe and Mail and Maclean’s

Smith is producing work at a hyper velocity in many different mediums including assemblage, painting, sculpture, photography, video, and performance.
Aesthetically, his work ranges from Post Formalism to Dumpster Pop.

Cyrus Smith works on a grand scale - first as a graffiti artist painting the brick walls and train cars of Winnipeg and now with acrylic on canvas. Sensitivity and generosity are fused with a cynical edge using libertarian socio-political concerns of contemporary Canadians.
He experiments with colour and form, fusing modernist aesthetics to pressing issues like genetic modification, global warming and war.
