"Winnipeg's Rooster Town: Myths and Realities"

The Grant Park area wasn’t always a mecca of shopping and condos. For most of the 1900s the space between Grant Avenue and Taylor Avenue, from Wilton Street west until Lindsay Street, was a Metis community known as Rooster Town. During the 1950s the space was illegally taken and the residents forcibly removed for new immigrant homes.

Dr. Peters is an urban social geographer who received her BA (Honours) at the University of Winnipeg and her MA and PhD at Queen’s University in Kingston. Her recent edited book with Chris Andersen, Indigenous in the City: Contemporary Identities and Cultural Innovation, focusses on urban Indigenous experiences.

Rape is Real and Everywhere: A National Comedy Tour is what happens when comedians who have survived rape share their experience and joke it out.
After three sold out shows in Vancouver, Rape is Real is hitting the road.

We're bringing together a mix of Canada’s finest headliners, local talent, and Vancouver tag-alongs to joke it out on one of Canada’s toughest topics. Prepare yourself for hilarity, cathartic honesty and old-fashioned vulnerability. Featuring Comedians:
Nelson Mayer, Lara Rae, Heather Jordan Ross, Emma Helsinki Cooper and headliner
Kathleen McGee (JFL Northwest, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, CBC's the Debaters)

A staged reading of our new play-in-development, Breaking Through, a compilation of stories from the community on experiences with mental health.

What are the challenges for those with a mental health diagnosis and what is needed to support recovery? Follow five characters as their stories weave in and out to depict experiences with the system, community response, internal struggles and ultimately the desire for understanding.
This community-based project has had Sarasvàti’s artists team up with Artists in Health Care Manitoba, Red Threads Playback Theatre and the Selkirk Mental Health Centre as well as work with organizations such as the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society.
We are inviting you to help us refine the script by providing responses and feedback.

WINNIPEG HALLOWEEN EVENT: Fear the Sliding Dead ...
You Will Run. You Will Scream.
You Will Fear at Fun Mountain.
Rebel guides will take small groups of people looking to tempt fate into Fun Mountain.

In September, when the park closed for the season, a toxin from the deadly Manitoba mosquito began to change people into what some are calling zombies. Faster and smarter than your Hollywood zombies, those that walk the park feast on the flesh of those looking for a thrill.
Stay close to your guide. He's the only one with a gun.
If he runs, you run. If he ducks, you duck. If he dies, well ...
