Let the Eastern Bastards Freeze in the Dark: The West Versus the Rest Since Confederation - the recipient of the J.W. Dafoe Book Prize for 2013

The oil sands. Global warming. The National Energy Program. Though these seem like modern Canadian subjects, author Janigan reveals them to be a legacy of longstanding regional rivalry. 

Mary Janigan, a journalist who has written extensively about Canadian public policy, has won the prestigious Hy Solomon award for policy analysis, and the National Newspaper Award for her scrutiny of proposed Constitution changes. She lives in Toronto.

Mike and Jill Palitsky reside in Winnipeg where they raise two boys. The challenge of parenthood is a fine balance between fun and responsibility. 

Illustrator Matthew Welch enjoys making art and writing stories that he hopes will bring as much joy to children as the comics and books from his childhood brought to him.
