Open City Cinema is excited to present Penny Lane and Brian L. Frye's new feature length documentary OUR NIXON,  an all-archival documentary.

Throughout Richard Nixon's presidency, three of his top White House aides obsessively documented their experiences with Super 8 home movie cameras. Young, idealistic and dedicated, they had no idea that a few years later they'd all be in prison.

This unique and personal visual record, created by H.R. Haldeman, John Ehrlichman and Dwight Chapin, was seized by the FBI during the Watergate investigation, then filed away at the National Archives, and forgotten for almost 40 years.

Preceded by two found-footage short films, by Laura Mackin and Brian L. Frye

Plug In ICA is pleased to present the opening reception of

The exhibition is organized around some of Moholy-Nagy’s key themes: sensory training, technology/modernity, production/reproduction, immersion/participation, art as information/information as art, and transparency/reflection/motion.

Moholy-Nagy is known for his work in traditional media such as painting and sculpture, but also in photography and film, as well as in stage and exhibition design, typography, and advertising.

This short film, made by László Moholy-Nagy in 1930, is based on the shadow patterns created by his Light-Space Modulator.

Curated by Oliver Botar, Sensing the Future combines historical artworks with works by contemporary artists from Canada, Europe and the United States.

'There is Here' a painting installation by Robert Taite
Artist talk - March 12, 2014 7 pm

Taite has installed a number of recent works in response to the architecture of aceartinc., continuing his investigation into the relationships and tensions between painting, sculpture, architecture and the body.

Taite constructs sculptural paintings that are experiments in simple formal and material possibilities. When pieces start to pile up in his studio, their original purposes get lost as they are recycled in new assemblages. This process continues in the gallery where its space becomes a new arena for construction. The work alludes to other spaces, other worlds, but inevitably self-destructs into the here and now.

Donate now  to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Desjardins Insurance will TRIPLE IT.

As a youngster, Olympic figure skater Isabelle Brasseur's fainting spells went unexplained. Eventually, doctors learned a heart defect could cause her heart to stop as a result of extreme exertion or stress. While giving birth to daughter Gabriella, Isabelle's heart stopped for 31 seconds. A jolt of adrenalin got it going again. Mom and baby were fine.

Heart and Stroke Foundation researchers have taken major strides to prevent sudden cardiac death by identifying the link between fainting and unexplained cardiac arrest.  Every dollar donated puts us closer to making more breakthrough discoveries that save lives and support survivors, their families and caregivers.

Ace Art: David Churchill & Frank Livingstone l Sarasvàti Fundraiser: So You Think You Can Act l Flip Book Animation l Circus for Circus

February 13, 7:00 pm
Ace Art, 2-290 McDermot Avenue

Filling the Hole – Art and the spaces of the City
Between August 2013 and January 2014 twenty-two artists placed their work in a small hole in the back exterior wall of a grocery store in Winnipeg’s West End. Each Sunday afternoon a different artist would install work in this modest opening facing a back alley.
The actual gallery site was devoid of any indications or explanations of the art or artist. This impromptu micro gallery presented art at its most vulnerable, exposed not only to elements but also to the random attentions of passersby.

Join Gallery founders and co-coordinators Frank Livingston and David Churchill, as they discuss the concept behind the gallery, the artists who donated their work, and the reactions to the gallery and to the art itself.

Frank Livingston is a Winnipeg based artist and gardener.
David Churchill, teaches history at the University of Manitoba.
