Loom Beaded Earring Workshop with Shanelle St. Hilaire
Learn how to plan out a pattern, choose beads, prepare the loom, make a pair of earrings, remove from the loom and finish them off.
The instructor will give the recommended size to work with based on the time allotted for this workshop. If you choose to make a larger or more detailed pair of earrings and are unable to complete them in time, you are able to rent a loom and buy beads.
You will have bead options available in various shapes, colours, sizes and finishes.
All materials included: Looms, beads, paper and markers for planning patterns, tools, etc. There will be 30 minutes for lunch (bring your own bag lunch please).
Shanelle St. Hilaire (she/they) is a Red River Métis beader. Most of their work is beadwoven using a beading loom, the imagery they often work is very geometric using circles to represent moons. They also use the traditional Ceinture Flechee pattern and reinvent it to honour her Métis culture and community.

Join Brenda Sciberras for the launch of her new poetry collection Riddled in Red (At Bay Press). Featuring a reading and a conversation hosted by Catherine Hunter.
https://www.mcnallyrobinson.com/.../bren.../riddled-with-red
Available as a YouTube stream: https://youtube.com/live/UfadxzYvOhs
Separated into three sections, and written in the experimental ekphrasis form, Sciberras uses a detailed description of a particular painting by Mary Pratt, as a literary device. This process allowed for an emotional response and brought forth memories or associations from the poet's own personal experience.
The main focus of the collection is the creation of art, both literary and visual, which centres around Sciberras and Pratt, at times blurring the lines between their individual lives. Riddled with Red draws fascinating parallels between visual art and the written word.
Brenda Sciberras is an award-winning poet. Her first collection, Magpie Days, won the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for Best First Book. Her collection, Starland, was launched in 2018. Her poetry has been published in Canadian literary journals and anthologies.

Food prices have been on everybody’s mind.
Les Verts Living is a new Canadian business.
This is a part of their message:
A head of lettuce flown into a remote northern community can cost $10 or more. A fresher, more nutritious head of lettuce grown locally with the Terrace Pro Community Harvest System costs $1.25 or less in input costs.
That’s not a rounding error. That’s a completely different relationship with food.
The Community Harvest System grows 60 heads of fresh lettuce (or other crops) every week using a room your community already has, powered by a standard electrical outlet, operated by anyone on your team in under 2 hours a week. No new infrastructure, no permitting, no technical expertise.
Could an unused room in your school, organization, or community become part of your food security strategy?
Empowering anyone anywhere to grow fresh, quality food for their family, friends and local communities with the Les Verts Terrace indoor hydroponic garden system.
Please check out their website for more info https://lesverts.com/
