CBC Book's Readers' Choice Contest

CBC Books is asking Canadian fiction fans to help choose a book for the Scotiabank Giller Prize 2011 longlist.
The deadline for nominations is August 28.

Explore this year's eligible books and submit your nomination.  Let us know why you think this book deserves to be considered for Canada's richest literary prize!

We'll tally your nominations and post updates about the status of popular titles.
The book that garners the most nominations will be added onto the official longlist.

About one of the nominees Key In Lock by Rona Altrows...

This collection of mostly first person narratives overflows with witty, compulsive females. It’s a literary cathedral for worried women. Their husbands and lovers might let them down, their neighbours and their bodies might let them down, but Rona Altrows’ women keep on keeping on. Contemporary anxiety never had it so good.
—David Carpenter, author of Welcome to Canada

Rona Altrows signing Key In Lock

Come down to Shelf LIfe Books, #100, 1302 4 Street SW, for a meet and greet with one of Calgary's finest authors, Rona Altrows.

Key In Lock has been quite the success for the local literary talent, and we're happy to have her here on Saturday, April 9, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, to sign copies of her book.

A passion for humanity drives Rona Altrows' entertaining yet poignant stories in which people wrestle with self-doubt, ethical dilemmas, money problems and health issues.  Yet somehow they survive and sometimes they even thrive.

Key In Lock also marks the return of Irene, beloved manager-in-all-but-name of Marjorie's Lingerie introduced in "A Run On Hose."  This time Irene takes on issues as diverse as dating later in life, the effect of childlessness on a person's psyche, stress incontinence, and the love rituals of banana slugs.  Irene also brings us tales of her youth in the days of the polio epidemic and Vincent Price horror movies.
