Slim Cessna’s Auto Club w/ The Vibrating Beds
Sunday July 29
Doors 7:15 pm | Show 8:00 pm
Tickets: $15 advance | $20 door
Tickets available at the West End Cultural Centre, Ticketmaster, Music Trader,
and Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store

Alternative Tentacles recording artists Slim Cessna’s Auto Club are on tour to promote their 2011 release Unentitled.

Jello Biafra (former Dead Kennedys frontman) describes SCAC as the country band that would be playing the bar at the end of the world.

Slim Cessna’s Auto Club have been described as engaging, riveting, sad and humorous; and has been branded with every musical description possible.
After a decade of working and living as SCAC, they have created their own genre.

The songs are thoughtfully crafted with unique arrangements, executed by superb musicianship, then fully realized through intelligent lyrics. With two of the most charismatic front men around and four accomplished musicians (Wovenhand, Delta 72, 16Horsepower), SCAC is the past, present and future of American music.

Haunting and sometimes unsettling, their music takes the best of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and the high theatre to arrive at a sound that strikes at the heart of the listener. Philadelphia Weekly

SENSORIA

Gearshifting Performance Works presents SENSORIA for one night only at The Gas Station Theatre on Thursday April 21, from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

Works by Artistic Director, Jolene Bailie include:
A Glimpse into Sensory Life, Infinite World
Gloria’s Sensoria
Hybrid Human

Tickets $15 students and seniors / $20 regular

An exciting program of edgy dance showcasing athletic and visceral movement danced by beautifully trained dancers on themes relevant to today’s society.

Dancers include: Jolene Bailie, Branwyn Bundon, Claire Marshall, Tiffany Thomas, Christie Peters and Krista Nicholson
Collaborators include: Wanda Koop (Visual Artist) Hugh Conacher (Lighting and Media Design), Susan Chafe (Sound), Anne Armit (Costumes) and Jolene Bailie (Choreography).

"A Glimpse into Sensory Life, Infinite World", based on Jolene Bailie’s full-length, ten year anniversary work, "Sensory Life, Infinite World", is a short ensemble arrangement inspired by the seemingly limitless possibilities and co-operative relationships within underwater animal and plant life.

The new solo work in progress, "Gloria’s Sensoria", is a theatrical work using text and movement, performed by Jolene Bailie. It stems from Bailie’s belief that one can never really comprehend the depth of their surroundings.

"Hybrid Human" is based on sketches by Wanda Koop. It explores the constructed notion of robots and ideas around the disembodied experience, consciousness, creativity, alien intelligence, and artificial life. This will also be presented by The National Arts Centre in Ottawa on April 27 as part of Prairie Scene.

Gearshifting Performance Works sincerely thanks The Canada Council for the Arts, The Manitoba Arts Council and The Winnipeg Arts Council for their generous support.

David Perrett's City.Block.Stop for the U of W

Everyone is welcome to the official opening of City.Block.Stop, a new artist-designed transit shelter and sculpture on Wednesday, June 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the new transit stop on Ellice Avenue between Spence and Isabel Streets.

Conceived as a gateway to the campus, Winnipeg artist David Perrett worked closely with the University of Winnipeg community and with Winnipeg Transit.

The shelter features local mortared stone, including sandstone reclaimed from the University of Winnipeg’s historic Wesley Hall, sculptural seating and an ecologically green moss-covered roof accented by laser cut screens. The related Tyndall stone sculpture is inspired by the geography of the city, carved to represent the Red, Assiniboine and Seine Rivers and the surrounding topography.

“The shelter design was created borrowing elements from both nature and Winnipeg architecture. With four open sides, the shelter gives an inviting atmosphere and takes advantage of the ample direct and indirect sunlight at the site. The carving on the sculpture is an adaptation of the cityscape that shows the rivers seemingly rejoining each other as they wrap around the six-sided cube,” said artist David Perrett.

City.Block.Stop was created through the Public Art Program of the Winnipeg Arts Council.

Have a great day. How can you miss - you're in Winnipeg!
