"Prairie Indigenous Leaders Touring Central Canada, 1886"
UMNATV Winter 2016 Colloquium - Dr. Donald Smith

In 1886 Rev. John McDougall accompanied Cree chiefs Pakan and Samson, and the Stoney Jonas Goodstoney to Ontario and to Montreal. The trip came as a reward for their loyalty. The newspaper coverage of these 1886 visits provides surprising insights about the interests of these First Nations people the year after the Riel Resistance of 1885.
