Actor John D. Huston will perform his one man show Screwtape
The great script draws heavily from C.S. Lewis’ book ‘The Screwtape Letters’ and from his ‘Screwtape Proposes a Toast’. In this depiction of Hell, demons feast on sinful human “vermin” and strategize how to gradually draw their targets away from “The Enemy.”

Lewis’s story is modernized slightly here with the use of Google Glass and a bit of added culturally relevant dialogue, but it never loses the original feel of the story. John D. Huston as the senior demon in the well-tailored black suit is exceptional, and I almost couldn’t take my eyes off him for the whole 70 minutes. Readers of C.S. Lewis’s work will be very satisfied with this adaptation, and from what I overheard another audience member saying, the non-religious will like it too. Carmelle Pretzlaw

UMNATV Fall 2016 Colloquium: Kyle Mason
"Building Community and Futures in Winnipeg's North End"

Son of an Ojibway father and Metis mother, Kyle grew up in the North End in a single parent family that struggled. Finding a sense of belonging in a local church youth group, Kyle stayed in school. After graduating with a theological degree, Kyle's career has taken him to leadership positions in food banks and homeless shelters, until co-founding the North End Family Centre in October 2009. Kyle has received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and was chosen as one of CBC Manitoba's Future 40 leaders.
