Lori Cayer is the author of five volumes of poetry: Searching for Signal, Mrs Romanov, Dopamine Blunder, Attenuations of Force, and Stealing Mercury, which won the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for Best First Book in Manitoba in 2004. In 2005 Lori won the John Hirsch Award for Most Promising Manitoba Writer. She is co-founder of the Lansdowne Prize for Poetry/Prix Lansdowne de poésie, part of the Manitoba Writing and Publishing Awards. It’s a chance to leave your solitary world in front of the computer (notebook & pencil or typewriter, if you are ‘old school’) and ‘meet’ in the online world with others just like you.

Tim has recently passed away and left Lori with piles of expensive recording equipment and mountains of debt. Tim’s family wants to move on from the loss but Lori can’t let go, not while she can still hear Tim’s laugh as though he’s still there beside her. That is, until she begins to hear his laugh in odd places, like old recordings Tim never worked on.
Can love transcend to keep us connected through death? Or do we just create our own reality when we’re not ready to let go?
Keith Cadieux is a Winnipeg-based writer and editor. His debut, the novella Gaze was shortlisted for a Manitoba Book Award and a ReLit award. He co-edited the horror anthology The Shadow Over Portage and Main, which was also shortlisted for a Manitoba Book Award, as well as the ‘Fantasmagoriana Series’ published by the Winnipeg International Writers Festival. Two short stories of his (“Stuck” and “Donner Parties”) have appeared on the Honourable Mentions list of ‘The Best Horror of the Year’ series.

The Grey Nuns’ convent, Winnipeg’s oldest building, houses Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of Louis Riel artifacts. Built for the Grey Nuns who arrived in the Red River Colony in 1844, the structure is an outstanding example of Red River frame construction. The Museum presents an impressive collection of artifacts that reveal the lives and culture of the Francophone and Métis communities, including a special exhibit about Louis Riel, the “father” of Manitoba.

It’s devastating to see the toll this year has had on women in our community:
Women have been laid off from their service-industry jobs and have nowhere to go.
Women in our city are walking around without shoes.
Women don’t have supplies to keep themselves clean and safe.
Women are struggling to access food for themselves and their children.
The need is overwhelming.
We staff the WCWRC Street Outreach Van – the only 7-day-a-week outreach services focused on women in Winnipeg. Every day we meet homeless women who are looking for safety and support, and just a little bit of connection and normalcy. By seeing many of the same women everyday, we can also check in on their well being and connect them with additional services, such as housing supports and counseling.

The Assiniboine Valley Railway, Inc., 3001 Roblin Blvd.
The 1/8th scale railway just west of Assiniboine Park, is sad to report that the family of the AVR founder, the late Bill Taylor, has given notice that the AVR has 5 months to vacate the property.
We will likely have to put everything into storage temporarily. We will need a new home, or else will have to dissolve the AVR and sell off our assets.
All public access to the property must cease, so there will be no AVR Season this year. If we are to continue, we will need at least several acres to rebuild on, with hydro & water, close enough to the city that we and the public have easy access. We cannot see rebuilding without public monetary support.
All of us at the AVR miss Bill since his passing in 2013, and have been honored to continue his dream hobby that has given pleasure to so many people. We want to thank the thousands of people who have supported us and enjoyed riding on our Open House trains in the summer, on our Halloween and Christmas Weekend trains, and sharing meals on the Dinner Train Weekends.
