The Pines presented by Winnipeg Folk Festival
A truly unique sound that captures ears and stimulates the mind. The Pines is a band that has taken on this feat, honing their musical craft to near perfection with a sound that wavers on the edge of traditional acoustic/roots music, but embraces the nuances of today's indie-rock and blues music.

Fellow Iowans David Huckfelt and Benson Ramsey began playing music together, forming The Pines. They returned to their Midwestern roots and settled in Minneapolis, a music haven that has launched the career of folk and rock legend Bob Dylan.

I support Shoal Lake 40 and the construction of "Freedom Road", which would give them year-round access to the Transcanada Hwy, and therefore access to services and contact with the rest of Canada. They have lived in isolation ever since a decision was made about 100 years ago to build an aqueduct that would supply clean drinking water to Winnipeg. Now they themselves cannot access clean drinking water, and have been under a boil water advisory for nearly two decades. A road would allow a proper water treatment plant to be built.

As my friend Steve Bell put it to me one day, any time something is "taken" from someone else, there is usually some kind of 'exchange'. Much was taken from the people of Shoal Lake 40, and what has been the fair exchange? Winnipeg is the clear winner, and we profit every time we turn on our tap. Tragically, nine lives have been lost while crossing the water, trying to connect to services or to "get home". We must not close our eyes.

My plea to you today is to sign this petition. The City has said they will pay for a third of the cost of the road (with the province and the federal gov't to make up the rest). This will not happen unless it is officially penned into a budget line.
Canadian communities should not be living with years of boil water advisories, and we all agree that clean water is a basic human right.
Can we support our own citizens here?
I'm humbly asking: Please sign. Thank you!
~ Jaylene Johnson

Christopher Marlowe's Edward II, a new adaptation by Kendra Jones
Directed by Sarah Constible
Why should you love him, who the world hates so?
Out of the ashes, a society rises. Newly crowned King Edward II rules an unstable kingdom. When he raises Gaveston above the rest, his hold on power weakens. Once again, war threatens the land as jealousy and intolerance rip family, lovers and friends apart.

Kevin Anderson, Andrew Cecon, Toby Hughes, Tom Keenan, Daina Leitold, Derek Leenhouts, Mel Marginet, Tracey Nepinak, Karl Thordarson and Kevin Klassen as King Edward II.

The Park Theatre presents The Wet Secrets as part of our 10th Anniversary Weekend.

The Wet Secrets is a six piece rock’n’roll dance band that plays swampy basslines, primal drumming, keys, congas & vocal harmonies galore. Formed on a dare by Lyle Bell, Trevor Anderson and Kim Rackel, the bass and horn-heavy group burst onto the scene with 2006’s A Whale of a Cow; 2007 saw the release of the fuzzed-up full-length Rock Fantasy
The Wet Secrets have signed with Six Shooter Records for their upcoming album The Tyranny of Objects, due out in early 2016.

The Park Theatre presents The Ripperz as they release their new album with guests Dangercat and Harley James Flett.
The Ripperz’ talent, passion, and laid back style pulls in new fans at each performance. The home-style brand of rock and roll varies from folk tinged ballads to upbeat rockers with an occasional hard rock scream thrown in for good measure.

Dangercat are a four-piece punk band from Winnipeg. Their new album ‘To The Moon’ came out September, 2014.

October 3, Doors 8 / Show 9:00 pm - 11:55 pm
The Park Theatre is proud to present The Perpetrators and The Reverend Rambler as part of our 10th Anniversary Weekend.

The Perpetrators front-man and founding member Jay Nowicki is rated one of Canada’s tastiest guitar players. Together with the rhythm section of Emmet VanEtten and John Scoles they deliver a tight, raw and intense blues experience.

The Reverend Rambler is not actually a man of the cloth. For much of the last six years, Matt Colpitts has frequently stormed Manitoba stages, issuing up foot-stomping sermons of ferocious rhythm and blues.

Andrea Graham is known as The Librarian. The Bass Coast Music Festival's co-founder and music curator has been making some very loud noises up and down the Pacific Northwest for the better part of a decade. Her knack for blending total dance floor destruction with sly subtleties and hot new exclusives makes for a consistently accessible, yet undeniably future sound.

Andrea has toured the Pacific Northwest club & festival circuit extensively, and has performed as far way as Costa Rica and throughout the midwest. She also has a bi-weekly radio show on Sub.fm every second Wednesday.

Do you enjoy or did you used to enjoy singing?
Do you have trouble expressing yourself through your voice or facial expressions?
Do you sometimes have a hard time recognizing how others might be feeling?

If you answered “yes”, you may be interested in a new FREE choir program developed by researchers in the SMART Lab at Ryerson University.
The choir will run for a total of 13 weeks per season, with each session lasting an hour.
This hour of singing is followed by a social hour with refreshments provided.
The choir focuses on improving vocal quality, facial expressiveness and emotion perception.

The Parkinson’s Choir involves singing both happy/upbeat songs and sad/slower songs while mirroring the choir director’s expressions for each of those emotions.
If you are interested in joining the choir, or have any questions, please contact

Gardeners have even tied string on the balls so that they can be suspended. A display of dangling moss-balls is called a ‘string garden’. Start your own string garden!
