Declan O’Donovan is that songwriter and contemporary troubadour who utilizes a broad palate of voice and piano to tell intriguing stories through the music he creates. At home in the rural environs of Whitehorse, Yukon and equally at home in the urban centers of Montreal and Toronto, this broad sense of place comes into play in the songs Declan has written for his newest release, Broken Sky.
Featured on Broken Sky is Brad Barr (The Barr Brothers), and Joe Grass, Mishka Stein, and Robbie Kuster of Patrick Watson.

Leaf Rapid's debut album Lucky Stars is a soundtrack for the modern cowboy - part Canadian trucker, part Manitoba Motown. Fronted by Keri and Devin Latimer, Leaf Rapids came out of their popular indie folk band, Nathan. Winning 2 Canadian Folk Music titles and the 2008 Juno award for Roots Traditional Album of the Year, Keri and Devin's outstanding talents grabbed the attention of industry heavy weights. As a five time Juno award-winning producer, Dawson brought his powerful talents on a wide variety of instruments.

UMNATV Fall 2016 Colloquium: Beatrice Mosionier
"April Raintree: 30+ years later and a New Edition"

April Raintree is the story of two sisters, separated from their family and one another. They navigate a society that is, at times, indifferent, hostile, and violent. Through this work of fiction, author Beatrice Mosionier reflects the all-too-harsh reality facing Indigenous people – as well as a message of hope, healing, and reclamation.
Join us as Beatrice reflects on the past three decades of the book, unveils a new edition, and answers questions on her life and career.

Beatrice Mosionier was born in St. Boniface, and grew up in foster homes. Following the death of two sisters to suicide, Beatrice decided to write In Search of April Raintree. She previously worked as publisher of Pemmican Publications.

This evening is also about getting this music to the young people.
This evening of music and stories will end with a concert screening. Filmed while in his early 50's when JLL still had the fire of rock'n roll with the cool of a wise man and some live scars that make country song sound like a personal story.
