The Life and work of David Wynyard Bellhouse
Trained as an architect in Bruges, Belgium and London, England, David Wynyard Bellhouse (1861 – 1952) immigrated to Manitoba in 1883 where he initially farmed near Cypress River. He moved to Winnipeg in 1896 where he worked in a few jobs until he was able to set up his practice as an architect.
I will describe his building background in England and his own work in the building industry in Manitoba, illustrated with several examples that are mostly standing today. In Winnipeg, Bellhouse designed factories and warehouses in and near the Exchange District, apartment buildings, churches, and houses, mainly for Winnipeg’s wealthy living in Armstrong’s Point and Crescentwood.
Speaker: David R. Bellhouse is the author of three academic books on the history of probability and statistics and of five self-published books on the history of his family.

Free! Online with Zoom or Facebook Live.  For the Zoom link:

Casting a line Panel Discussion
Moderated by curator Mariana Muñoz Gomez, this online panel discussion will explore the themes of the exhibition Casting a line from the perspective of the artmakers: Joi T. Arcand, Florence Yee, Hassaan Ashraf, Annie Beach, and Niamh Dooley.
The artists use language in their works as a tether through time, reimagining communication, power, healing and relation outside of imposed settler colonial structures. This exhibition was developed as Muñoz Gomez’s practicum project, as part of her Master’s in Cultural Studies: Curatorial Practices at the University of Winnipeg.
Auto captioning will be available if you are watching with Zoom.

The Pride & Prejudice Ball ~ Winnipeg (2020) · Hosted by Lady Jane Productions

Live in History, and imagine yourself transported to Regency England, circa 1815.  It's the world of Jane Austen, where Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennett are dancing by candlelight at the Netherfield Ball, where military heroes such as the Duke of Wellington have returned triumphant from the Napoleonic War, where there is dancing to live music, and where a frothy cup of syllabub is yours to sip, surrounded by the sight of elegant, bejewelled ladies and dashing gentlemen ... all without the use of a time machine.

New for 2020:  a light, pre-Ball Dinner  (5:00-6:15 pm)
Enjoy a Regency era-inspired, light dinner of Regency White Soup, the Fort Garry's famous bread, Regency Greens (salad), and beautiful Beef Stew.
A Vegetarian meal of Mulligatawny Soup with a Vegetable tart is an option.

No partner is necessary and no dance experience required. A dance partner is easily acquired, as it was commonplace in this period for people to dance with different partners.

The Guardian Angel Benefit for Women’s Cancer committee is dedicated to finding a cure for women’s cancers by funding innovative research, treatment and care.
