Kisiskatchewan: The Great River Road
Based on the journal entries written by William Tomison, a native Orkneyman hired in 1760 as a labourer by the Hudson’s Bay Company who rose to become “Governor, Inland”. These writings paint an outline of life at a time when smallpox swept across the northern Great Plains and the determined march west of European traders transformed North America forever.
Barbara Huck spent two decades as a National Newspaper award-winning journalist and broadcaster. She has authored or co-authored nine books, including four national bestsellers, and won five awards as a writer and editor. During the same period, Heartland Associates has won twenty-six awards and been nominated for many more. Barbara is married to Peter St. John, the 9th Earl of Orkney.

A poetry book launch as theatrical event performed by Nurit Drory, Cheryl Kives,
Liliana Romanowski, Stanislaw Rossowski, John H. Baillie and Ron Romanowski.
This is Romanowski’s fifth poetry collection and his second in the series of the New Festival Theory group of poets following The Big book of Canadian Poetry. His Insurrection (2009) commemorated the strikers’ part in the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike on the ninetieth anniversary of their strike. Ron produced the poetry-Rock fusion Out of Winnipeg Endlessly Rocking in April 2012 at Winnipeg’s Millennium Library.
