Media for Solo Performer is an expanded cinema / media performance. The performer will be using an EEG (Electroencephalography) game controller to allow a computer to electrically measure and recognize his neural activity. Through the mind and memories of the performer a real-time narrative will unfold.
It directly examines recorded media as the mechanization of imagination and memory. It is created as a development of Alvin Lucier's 1964 work Music for Solo Performer in which Lucier translates his thoughts into sound via mechanical instruments.
The Idiot Prince in Preview is a presentation by Kram Ran of material he has been working on for several years. It is an album on the study of the finite self, and the process of becoming and sifting through the endless influences to find pure creation and self.
Songs themselves are sampled within themselves - another nod to Alvin Lucier, this time “I Am Sitting In A Room” - and external sound bites are taken from Dostoevsky's The Idiot (Prince Myshkin), Machiavelli's The Prince, and Antoine de Saint Exupéry's The Little Prince.
The presentation will include the screening of a new Kram Ran video by Tyler Funk and Mark Wohlgemuth.
